1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs (beaten)
1 cup milk
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 325º. Butter and lightly flour two 9-inch cake pans. Cream
together sugar and shortening, add eggs. Sift together flour and baking soda.
Alternate adding flour mixture and milk to the first mixture. Blend well.
Set aside. Melt chocolate in boiling water. Stir chocolate and water until
creamy. Add chocolate and vanilla to batter. Blend thoroughly . Pour into cake
pans. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
