Cardboard Roll Puppet

Many crafters have a scavenger's heart. Compulsion or quirk, these people see possibilities in old junk or another person's garbage,. from egg cartons to coffee cans, strawberry baskets to toilet paper rolls. Yes, toilet paper rolls. Those little cardboard tubes that get forgotten on the holder while the full roll sits on the bathroom floor. But gather up those empty tubes for your next craft activity with the scout group or class room.

Materials Needed:
Empty toilet paper roll
Paste, glue or glue stick
Yarn
Scissors
Felt tip pens
1 1/2" x 6" strip of construction paper (color for the face of your puppet)
1" x 6" strip of construction paper (color for the shirt of your puppet)
1 1/2" x 6" strip of construction paper (color for the pants/skirt of your puppet)
1/2" x 6" strip of construction paper (color for the shoes of your puppet)

Directions:
Cover one side of the "face" strip with paste or glue then wrap around the top 1 1/2" of the empty paper roll. Press down securely. Cover one side of the "shirt" strip with paste or glue then wrap around the top paper roll, butting one edge next to the outside edge of the face strip. Press down securely. Cover one side of the "pant/skirt" strip with paste or glue then wrap around the top paper roll, butting one edge next to the outside edge of the shirt strip. Press down securely. Cover one side of the "shoe" strip with paste or glue then wrap around the top paper roll, butting one edge next to the outside edge of the pant/skirt strip. Press down securely.

Use a felt tip pen to color in the face and to draw arms and other details.
