Wooded Floral Arrangement

When the snow is falling outside, it is sometimes difficult to remember that spring is just around the corner. There are no wildflowers to fill our kitchen vase, and no roses to cut from our gardens. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy a spring like floral.

A bit primitive and unique, the wooded floral arrangement makes a lovely centerpiece or curio accessory. This project allows the creative crafter to transform a small log, thick limb or driftwood into a fanciful floral.

Materials Needed:
A small log or gnarled, thick limb. (suggested length: 6" to 12")
Paper cup of white glue
Newspaper
Silk flowers, greenery
Scissors
Miniature ceramic figures (such as a frog)

Directions:
Choose a small log that has lots of cracks, and is flat enough on one side, so that it does not roll around when set down. Look for one with an interesting shape. Searching for such an item makes an entertaining scavenger hunt, during a winter nature hike.

Place a newspaper on your table, and confine your mess, by working on the newspaper. Decorate the log with the silk flowers by dipping the stems in glue, and setting in place. Wedging the tips of stems into the cracks and crevice s of the log, gives the appearance that they are growing. Use the scissors to snip flowers or stems as needed.

Try gluing some floral moss on the log. Add additional character by gluing a tiny ceramic figure, of your choice, to the arrangement.
