Havasu’s most talented children had their moment in the sun
last Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, competing in the 4th Annual
Havasu Idol Competition. In its fourth year, Havasu Idol is
part of the Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce Winterfest
Street Festival.
All Lake Havasu City children between 5 and 18
years old were eligible to compete; in the age 5 to 11
category, top honors went to Rebecca Pund, 8, who sang “We Can
Make A Difference.” The second place finisher was 8-year-old
Destiny Goss, who played “When the Saints Go Marching In” on
the guitar. Annalesha Fain, 10, rounded out the top three,
taking third place for singing “I Think I’m In Love.”
Brittney Anderson, 16, was the first place winner
in the 12 to 18 year-old category getting the crowd into it
with her rendition of “I’m Here for the Party.” Second place
honors went to Marisa Emery, 13, who sang “I Need You to Love
Me.” Katrina Jensen, 15, was the third place winner with a
vocal performance of “Only Hope.”
Those taking home the awards were given cash
prizes and a trophy. All contestants were awarded a special
“goody bag” full of prizes and treat coupons, etc., from a
number of local businesses.
Three local “celebrity” judges in each category
were on hand to make the tough winning decisions. There were a
total of 40 contestants and Larry Reece of Channel 45 served
as master of ceremonies. Havasu Idol was managed by volunteer
Monica Hall of Mohave State Bank.
“Havasu Idol is the biggest entertainment draw at
Winterfest,” said Lisa Krueger, the Chamber’s President/CEO.
“It’s such a great show, we are always amazed at the number of
talented kids in our community.”
“Our hats are off to Monica Hall for putting the
show together,” Krueger added. “Getting 40 kids on and off the
stage, coordinating music and judges – this is a big job and
we truly appreciate Monica’s expert assistance.”
Planning for next year’s Winterfest, including the
