Yarn OctopusSome of my favorite crafts are those that I made as a child. One of these is the yarn octopus. It's whimsical, fun and similar to a stuffed animal as an ornament. This project will occupy little hands, yet is not terribly messy. The basic project requires a tennis ball, scissors and yarn. Cut 36 strands of yarn, each measuring 30 inches. Lay the strands side by side, with the ends even. Take another piece of yarn and tie the 36 strands together at the middle. Place the tennis ball at the knot, used to tie the strands together. Arrange the strands of yarn so they fall evenly around the ball, covering with yarn. Take another piece of yarn and fasten the strands securely at the bottom of the ball. You have just created the octopus' head. Divide the loose strands, dangling beneath the ball, into eight bunches. Braid each of these bunches to create the octopus' legs, and fasten each leg's end with a short piece of yarn. Decorate the octopus' face as desired, using yarn or glue and scraps of fabric. |
