Labor Day
2001:
Deaths result
from controversial
Rave Concert
on the
Chemehuevi Reservation
Lake Havasu
City's neighbor across the lake, the Chemehuevi Indian Reservation,
hosted a Labor Day Rave Concert, despite urging by California
officials to cancel the event.
Many have
questioned the Tribe's judgment in promoting an event which is often
associated with heavy drug use, and due to the unique location, held
the potential for serious problems.
Havasu, whose
summer heat was still well over 100 degrees during the event weekend,
could easily pose serious dehydration problems for careless concert
goers. The remote location of the event and limited resources does
not provide easy access for emergency services.
Unfortunately the event
ended with several deaths, injuries and many arrests.
